It's a New Day for Small Business
by Bill on 11/21/2012
It’s a new day. The tensions of the sluggish economy and a much divided election have taken their toll on my very core that desires to hear more good than bad. Well I say, no more! No more negativity, no more excuses, no more tolerance for not plotting a new course.
I am a strong believer that life is a self-fulfilling prophecy. We can tell ourselves that life, society and our economy are on the wrong track and do nothing about it, slowly watching our beliefs come true. Or we can recognize that we have some issues that need to be tackled and plot a new course. We can choose to recognize that everything around us is changing and work to plot a course that points towards how we are going to participate within this evolving environment. One of my favorite quotes that my dad always tells me is from the late Bear Bryant, former University of Alabama football coach: “I’d rather watch a winner than listen to one any day.”
Once I made the conscious decision to quit listening to the naysayers, the fog lifted and I was clearly able to see the goodness that was happening all around me. It was right before my eyes, yet succumbing to the negativity of the media headlines of the unemployed, a stale economy, government distrust and a heated negative political campaign from both sides had blinded me from all of this goodness. Well, no more!
Just in the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to meet some great people doing some great things despite all of the negativity that surrounds us. Their stories deserve to be told – because they have plotted a new course and people need to see the winners that are defying all odds and making a difference. These encounters also got me thinking that there are probably many others just like these folks – people who have said “no more,” plotted a new course and have decided to take action. Their stories need to be told, too – not necessarily to promote themselves, but for everyone else’s benefit. We need to see more winners and allow them to serve as an inspiration to the rest of us, showing that we can move toward a better future and that we have a significant role to play in that future.
SBALoansToday.com will be focusing on sharing the stories of people who have decided to venture out and make a difference, whether it is through great corporate stewardship of giving back to those in need, or young entrepreneurs starting new businesses to help create jobs in our society. I have asked our staff writers to launch a series of articles highlighting these great people and share their stores with our audience to help serve as an inspiration for all of you.
And I don’t want to stop there. We need your help finding these great stories. If you know of a great story of business success or inspirational stories of people/business going out of their way to help others or simply great innovative ideas that our young entrepreneurs have nurtured from a thought to a real life business, then we want to hear from you.
It’s time that we all come together with our collective consciousness and decide to make a difference. It’s time that we all come together and plot a new course for a new economy full of prosperity for everybody. It’s time we highlight the goodness, focus on the positive and start living our forward-thinking, self-fulfilling prophecies.
If you know of a story that deserves to be shared, please drop me an email at Bill@SBALoansToday.com.
